The commercialisation of Halloween and every other holiday
Its funny that Halloween went from make it at home costumes to mobs of women fighting over lingerie at Ann Summers and Harmony’s.
Its not the dresses that I’m concentrating on, but rather the gradual commercialisation of every holiday, be it Christian, Jewish, or Muslim.
We celebrate ‘Eid (no, its not like Christmas, its just a day we celebrate after a month of fasting in Ramadan). Now when I was young, it was more about having new clothes and getting lots of money and sweets from family. We’d visit family, pull crazy stunts with friends (it was the one day your parents wouldnt beat the shit out of you) and generally having a good time. But now, its about competing with each other on who has the most unique designer clothes, who has hired the best car (yes hired not bought) and just being total dickheads.

The shops start to raise their prices just before Ramadan comes in and they stay that way until ‘Eid is done with and no one has a penny left to spend.
Which brings me to society as a whole, the commercialisation project is near enough complete, and you can tell from every conversation you have with people.
Fanboy: Dude this iPod is the shit
Sane guy: Why are they calling an mp3 player an iPod?
Fanboy: Dude, this aint just an mp3 player, its an Apple iPod
Sane guy: So whats the difference?
Fanboy: Erm….Why the fuck you gotta ask stupid questions all the time man?.
These fucking guys have got their marketing so right, that they’d be able to sell you monkey shit wrapped up in the form of an iTouch.
Anyway, commercialisation, its got so bad, that almost every conversation I seem to have feels like the guy is comparing dick sizes with me.
What car you got?
Where do you live?
Bought or rented?
Where do you go to shop?
All these questions gotta have the right answers, you have got to have the right post/zip code otherwise you’re the dude with the small dick.
I blame MTV for this, I truly do, almost every other programme they air, is about shit other people have, that you dont have. My Crib, My Ride etc…
Infact, I blame MTV for most of society’s ills. Period.
But I still wonder, why is it ok to dress like a slut on Halloween?
